Love letter to Los Angeles

Dear Los Angeles,

You have been the first city that truly felt like home to me since I arrived in the United States at 19 years old.

Nearly five years ago, during the pandemic, I made the decision to move to LA—a choice that has shaped my life in ways I could never have imagined. These past years have been the happiest of my life, filled with the kind of belonging and joy I had long searched for. My heart truly breaks for what has unfolded with the fires.

LA is so much more than its glimmering Hollywood image. It is a tapestry woven from people of all backgrounds—immigrants chasing dreams, families building legacies, and individuals daring to create something extraordinary. It is raw, it is real, and it is breathtakingly beautiful.

Amid the devastation, it has been profoundly moving to witness strangers coming together, offering kindness and support in ways that remind us of the strength of this community.

But let us not forget that for so many, this is just the beginning of a long journey toward healing and rebuilding. Once the flames are extinguished and the news cycles move on, the impact will remain. So, let us continue to check in on our loved ones, neighbors and strangers. Let’s keep showing up for one another as we rebuild this incredible city we call home.
